6 May 1821 - 28 June 1861
Robert O'Hara Burke was an Irish-born Australian explorer who led the first expedition to cross Australia from south to north in 1860–1861. The journey, though ultimately fatal for Burke and his second-in-command Wills, was a landmark in the history of Australian exploration and revealed the extreme challenges of navigating the continent’s interior.
