David Livingstone was a Scottish missionary and explorer whose expeditions across central and southern Africa helped map vast unknown regions in the 19th century. He was the first European to see Victoria Falls and sought to abolish the slave trade through his travels. His disappearance and subsequent rediscovery by journalist Henry Morton Stanley captivated the Victorian public.
