John Mauchly was an American physicist and computer scientist who co-designed the ENIAC, the first general-purpose electronic digital computer, with J. Presper Eckert in the 1940s. His work laid the foundation for modern electronic computing and contributed significantly to the transition from mechanical to electronic calculation systems. He was also involved in the development of the UNIVAC, one of the first commercial computers.
