Federico Faggin is an Italian physicist, engineer, and inventor best known for leading the design of the Intel 4004, the world’s first commercial microprocessor, released in 1971. After moving to the United States, he worked at Fairchild Semiconductor and later Intel, where his innovations in silicon-gate technology enabled the development of fast and compact integrated circuits. Faggin’s work laid the groundwork for the microprocessor revolution and personal computing.
