Ed Roberts was an American engineer and entrepreneur who developed the Altair 8800 in 1975. Often hailed as the father of the personal computer, Roberts founded MITS (Micro Instrumentation and Telemetry Systems), the company behind the Altair. His affordable, build-it-yourself computer kit ignited a wave of interest in home computing and inspired figures like Bill Gates and Paul Allen to develop software for the machine, leading to the creation of Microsoft.
