M Jimmy Carter
Jimmy Carter (born 1924) was the 39th President (1977–1981). A former peanut farmer and governor of Georgia, Carter emphasized human rights and honesty in government. His administration brokered the Camp David Accords (a peace treaty between Egypt and Israel) and returned the Panama Canal Zone to Panama. However, economic troubles (inflation and oil shocks) and the prolonged Iran hostage crisis in 1979–1981 dominated the latter part of his presidency.
Interesting anecdote: Before becoming president, Carter reported seeing an unidentified flying object. In 1973, he filed an official report describing a UFO he said he observed in the night sky over Georgia in 1969. Though Carter, a trained Navy officer, never claimed it was an alien craft, he is the only U.S. President to formally document a UFO sighting.
