Don Walsh is an American oceanographer and retired naval officer who co-piloted the bathyscaphe Trieste with Jacques Piccard to the bottom of the Mariana Trench in 1960. His historic dive remains a milestone in human exploration of the deep ocean and contributed significantly to deep-sea research programs in the U.S. Navy.
